Fenn and Hill take Victory in Pre 66 Touring Car race at Brands Hatch Masters Historic
Rob Fenn and Jake Hill followed up their Win in the Gentlemen Racers event on Saturday, with a superb outright Victory in their 1965 Ford Mustang today in the Pre 66 Touring Car Race.
Fenn battled hard in the early stages of the race, getting back up to 5th after being edged down to 7th, before an electrical issue caused the car to suddenly shut down, a quick re-set by Fenn enabling him to keep going despite losing a couple of places.
Driving hard, he began to close on the leading pack when a Safety Car came out, Fenn judging the pitstop timing to perfection and enabling Hill to take the 'Red Rooster' back out now up to 2nd overall and leading their class.
"Rob did a fantastic job - especially as it was starting to rain - AND the cut cut completely a couple of times I think! So to keep us in contention, and time the pitstop so well was incredible" said Hill.
With just over 22 minutes remaining the Safety Car pullled in , and Hill set after overall leader Mark Sumpter's Ford Cortina, stalking him and a couple of laps later passing in a brave move around the outside at Surtees to take the lead.
The next couple of laps saw Sumpter still pressuring Hill, before a string of super-fast laps - including setting the Fastest Lap - saw the 1965 Ford Mustang edge away, and driving consistently Hill took the 166 machine to Victory by 3.25 seconds over Sumpter.
"Wow! What a great job by Rob and the team. Mega strategy, and Rob did such a great job. The car was a bit lively late on, so I was very pleased to see the Chequered Flag. I cannot thank David and Rob Fenn enough for giving me this opportunity and having faith in me. JDR have done a tremendous job - what a weekend - an overall win and 2nd overall and a class win - just brilliant! said Hill.
Next up for the pair is the prestigious Silverstone Classic at the end of July, where Hill took an overall Win in the Lotus Elan 26R last year, and an event that both drivers are looking forward to.
"It's such a great event to be part of. Both on and off track. It will be great fun - especially if the weather is great again" said Fenn.
