In a busy qualifying session for Rounds 16, 17 and 18 of the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship at Snetterton, 25 year-old Jake Hill said he was 'slightly frustrated' with his P14 on the grid, after small issues and a Red Flag hampered his session
Hill had shown strong pace in both practice sessions, taking P9 and P10 and feeling that the team had got a strong set-up for qualifying.
As the #24 Audi S3 hit the track for qualifying, it was immediately apparent there was something not quite right with the brakes, hence the team quickly rectified the issue, sending Hill out with minimal time lost.
As Hill started his first 'flying' lap, the first sector time indicated a very strong lap was on the cards, only for the session to be Red Flagged - something of a trend in 2019 - and Hill's lap aborted.
"I am certain the track was at it's quickest early on. We had a minor issue which was quickly sorted by the team, and then the lap I was on was really strong. Of course then I had taken the best out of my tyres, AND the track had got slower so it wasn't possible to improve my time"
Another run on a scrubbed set of tyres saw traffic restrict any further progress, but Hill positive for Sunday's races.
"We've had a good balance all day - qualifying was a case of 'nearly' but the Trade Price Cars Racing crew are doing an amazing job, so I'm confident we'll be ok on Sunday."
Hill will compete in his 100th BTCC race in race two on Sunday, and is hugely proud to have hit this milestone.
"Wow what an achievement! Lots of wonderful people have helped make this possible, so I am determined to make this a good one. It's going to be interesting with all three tyre compounds being used across three races - it just highlights how innovative BTCC continues to be"
