Omologato® joins Jake ‘just in time’ for Donington BTCC debut
After an ‘eventful’ start to his 2016 BTCC campaign with RCIB Insurance Racing at Brands Hatch, 22 year-old Jake Hill is excited to be racing for the first time in the BTCC at Donington Park.
Exciting news this week is that Jake has become a brand ambassador for one of the most exciting and innovative new range of motorsport-inspired timepieces, Omologato.
Hill will proudly wear his stylish new ‘722’ piece which pays tribute to Sir Stirling Moss’ legendary victory aboard his Mercedes-Benz - start number ‘722’ - in the 1955 Mille Miglia.
“Omologato® are a brand I instantly fell in love with when I saw their watches on line. I met Shami (OMOLOGATO founder and CEO Shami Kalra) at the Autosport show and when I got my deal for BTCC this year he was keen to be involved and I am delighted to join forces with a brand that I know will only become more and more proliific” said Jake.

“Omologato® are a young brand with big ambitions and an exciting future, and Jake mirrors those qualities as a driver. I love motorsport and BTCC is the pinnacle of the sport in the UK. I have no doubt that Jake will be a great ambassador for us and we will move forwards together” said Shami Kalra on his association with Jake.
Focussing on the weekend ahead Hill is looking forward to racing at the sweeping Leicestershire circuit for the first time since taking victory in Ginetta G50 back in 2011, but enjoyed a promising performance at the season launch last month, running in the top ten for much of the session, ultimately finishing the day in 14th place.
“Donington is one of my favourite circuits. I did a lot of testing here when I started racing in Ginetta Juniors back in 2009, and have Won here in both Juniors and G50’s. The Season Launch went really well and I think our Toyota Avensis should be well suited here” smiled Hill.
Brands Hatch showed that BRDC Rising Star Hill is completely at home with the frantic action that the BTCC brings. Hill pulled off some feisty moves to progress from 19th on the grid to 13th in race one, then running confidently and quickly in race two - fighting off eventual podium finisher Sam Tordoff - before a fuel pressure sensor failed and forced the Kent-based driver to retire in lap 17.
“I made a great start in both races and had a mega first lap in race one, passing four cars, and was on for a top-ten finish in race two. In fact on lap times I think we may have been able to make a couple more places up which would have put us well up on the grid for race three. As frustrating as it was to retire at least it showed we have some real potential and the pace is there.”
Race three at Brands saw Hill forced to start 29th after retirement in race two, again making a strong start and quickly working his way up to 20th, followed by former Ginetta rival and race one winner Tom Ingram, which resulted in some thrilling racing, with Hill driving defensively and Ingram determined to find a way past. Eventually contact ensued resulting in a scary high-speed spin for Hill at Hailwood Hill and a fine and penalty for Ingram for the incident.
“It was a really good battle with Tom. We were fighting for position and obviously Tom wanted to get past and unfortunately there was contact. It was a pretty wild ride - I spun through 720 degrees pretty close to the barriers - but fortunately didn’t hit anything and managed to finish.
I know BTCC is always pretty crazy which is why the drivers and the fans love it. I’m just focusing on Donington and getting more points and making more progress” smiled Hill.
